On May 4th, we’ll be joined by The Lovibond Project, who’s mission is to recruit, support, and professionally develop People of Color who are traditionally underrepresented in the ranks of craft beer professionals. We’ll also be discussing plans for an upcoming brewery walk, homebrew competition attendance and hosting, as well as having an open forum for people to submit their ideas for future club events and guests.

We couldn’t be more thrilled to be returning to Rockaway, and want to thank them for graciously allowing us to use their space. Looking forward to seeing you!

Style Night - High Gravity Brews

Our November Meeting will be the our third and final Style Night of 2020, this one focused on the Big Boys. We’re talking Imperial Stout, Scotch Ale, Barleywine, Quads - if it’s got a double-digit ABV, it’s at home in this meeting. So brew big, friends - let’s warm ourselves up with some monster homebrews.

Style Nights will be driven 100% by beers that our members bring in - the more beer we have, the more fun these nights will be! So, if you’re able, please try to bring something to share with the club. Thanks!

Finally, we’ll be holding our usual tasting, both providing structured feedback for those who want it and a free-form, casual tasting for those who just want to share their beer.

Shitty Beer Shootout
Sep

Shitty Beer Shootout

Our September meeting’s main event will be a celebration of…well, shitty beer. We’ll be putting the best of the worst up in a March Madness-style tournament to see who’s king of the trash heap. Big on High Life? Love you some LaBatts? Got a shitty regional beer you love? Let us know, and volunteer to bring in a sixer so we can party like it’s 1955.

Keeping with the theme, our undercard will be an exploration of off-flavors in beer. Skunked, oxygenated, infected…we’ve all seen it, but have you tasted it? Can you tell if your beers may be exhibiting some of these flavors? Come on down and find out what you’ve (probably not) been missing.

Finally, we’ll be holding our usual tasting, both providing structured feedback for those who want it and a free-form, casual tasting for those who just want to share their beer.

Hop Science

Hop Science

Our August meeting’s main event will be a presentation on Hops by Someone! We’ll talk varietals, usage techniques, equipment, efficiencies, acids, and more. Bring your pocket protectors - it’s gonna get nerdy.

Our undercard will be a system comparison - someone’s nice, modern, automated brewing setup compared with Matt’s stone-age bucket-and-water method. This will demonstrate the wide variety of equipment used for brewing, and (hopefully) prove that there’s more than one way to make a beer.

Finally, we’ll be holding our usual tasting, both providing structured feedback for those who want it and a free-form, casual tasting for those who just want to share their beer.

Guest Brewery - Arrowood Farms! - was Style Night - Summer Sippin'

Hey folks!  After several meetings with some of the best homebrew equipment makers in the space, we were hopeful that we could get a brewery to stop by and tell us their story.  The good folks at Arrowood Farms and Brewery in Accord, NY were happy to oblige!  They'll be stopping by to talk about their farm brewery, where they grow almost everything they use in their beers on site, and ferment with their own strains of wild yeast.

The meeting will start at 7:30PM on Zoom. Email brewstoria (at) gmail (dot) com for details.

Surprise Guest - Brulosophy! - was Style Night - Hoptimus Prime

Since we’re under quarantine, we’re unfortunately not able to host our planned May style night. However, never fear! We’re super excited to announce our surprise guest, Brülosophy! For those who don’t know them already, they explore different ingredients, methods, and techniques related to homebrewing, taking a scientific approach in both how they run their experiments and how they report their results. We’re starting at 7:30 on Zoom - check your email or chat for the link!

Feeling left out? Join us! Mail info@brewstoria.com for details.

Below is info on the Meeting that Wasn’t Meant to Be :)

Our May Meeting will be the first of three “Style Night” meetings of 2020. Style Night meetings will ask club members to brew their best variations on a theme. For our May meeting, we’re asking club members to bring their best Hoppy beer. Pining for that classic American IPA that’s fallen by the wayside? Can’t get enough haze? Think hop-forward golden lagers are the best thing thing since sliced bread? Want to experiment with new hop varieties from New Zealand? This is the meeting for you! Bring a few bottles to share around - we’ll hold a structured tasting and pick our favorites. Winners will have eternal bragging rights (until the next Style Night day, of course), and maybe a small prize or two.

Style Nights will be driven 100% by beers that our members bring in - the more beer we have, the more fun these nights will be! So, if you’re able, please try to bring something to share with the club. Thanks!

The Undercard event for this meeting will be focused on fermentation of a different time - cabbage! Alex will be us how to make kimchee and sauerkraut.

Finally, we’ll be holding our usual tasting, both providing structured feedback for those who want it and a free-form, casual tasting for those who just want to share their beer.

Märzen Madness!

Brewstoria’s March Meeting will be focused on the Marzen style of lager, Oktoberfest’s less-popular cousin. Alex will be doing a presentation on the Marzen style including the history of the style, its common characteristics, and will be providing examples of the style for us to taste.

Our “Undercard” event will be a review of beers recently scored by BJCP judges at Homebrew Alley.  Jon and Matt will bring in their beers, along with their scoresheets, to see how our palates stack up against the BJCP judges!

Finally, we’ll be holding our usual tasting, both providing structured feedback for those who want it and a free-form, casual tasting for those who just want to share their beer.

We look forward to seeing you there!
